About Me

About Me

Who Am I?

I’m Siddarth B Mahajan, a researcher, writer, and music producer from Vijayapura, Karnataka.

I was born with a visual condition called Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP). Rather than limiting my work, this has shaped my perspective, independence, and engagement with accessibility and inclusive knowledge practices.

Early Life and Education

From an early age, I was drawn to music, technology, and learning. My familiarity with assistive tools such as the JAWS screen reader enabled me to navigate my academic journey independently, including writing examinations without a scribe.

I studied in mainstream educational institutions alongside sighted peers, which played a significant role in developing my confidence and self-reliance.

Academic Journey

I completed my undergraduate degree in English Literature at Kristu Jayanti College, Bengaluru. I then pursued my MA in English with Communication Studies at Christ University, Bengaluru, where I developed my research interests in literature and cultural studies.

I have qualified UGC-NET and KSET in English and continue to engage in academic research and publication.

Research Interests

My academic interests include posthumanism, dystopian literature, and science fiction studies. I am particularly interested in how literary texts engage with questions of technology, embodiment, and evolving definitions of the human.

Music and Creative Practice

Alongside my academic work, I am actively engaged in music production. I have worked on Kannada short films and released an independent single titled “Gamana.”

For me, music functions as a parallel mode of expression and inquiry, complementing my academic work.

Personal Influences

My family has been central to my journey. My parents have been a constant source of support, and my brother, Dr. Akshay Mahajan, an Assistant Professor, continues to be a major source of inspiration.

Philosophy

I value depth over surface-level achievement. My approach to learning is driven by curiosity, critical thinking, and a commitment to meaningful engagement with knowledge.

I aim to pursue a PhD and contribute to academia as a researcher and educator.

Final Note

“Don’t look at someone with a disability as different—they are just as capable as anyone else.”
